For those of you who did not see in the news, the person who shot the terrorist today was Moshe Plesser, a 19 year old off-duty soldier who took courage in his hands to do something truly heroic and save numerous lives in the process. He was the brother in law of David Shapira, the person who, just as heroically, shot the terrorist in the Merkaz HaRav Attack before he could kill more people.
Here is a short article from Jpost about his actions.
May no one ever need to repeat such heroic actions, but may we also be inspired by those holy people willing to risk their lives to save their fellow Jews.
I once had a conversation where a Rav in which we tried to figure out the best way to make people realize the power of our generation's Judaism, the way in which a tzaddik in our time is not someone on the sidelines of society, but someone full of strength, willing to fight for Klal Israel. We were not sure how to bring out this message, but these people who heroically risk their lives for Klal Israel are giving out this message every day - giving out the message of the power of our generation's torah!
If there is any small positive spark to learn from today's tragedy, I think that needs to be it.
