The greatest danger with non-authentic kiruv is that we try to bring back secular jews to the way they were 200 years ago without recognizing the incredible growth they have created from Judaism!
We don't want to go back to 200 years ago! We now have a state, we now have an army. These secular Jews are ready to sacrifice their lives for their state - do we want to bring them back to the time where they were not willing to make such sacrifices? No! Chas Veshalom!
What we need to do is recognize the incredible strength they have, recognize the strength in the movement they have created and integrate those strengths to our own religiosity. We need to be religious soldiers ready to sacrifice our lives in the army yet also wearing tfillin every day. We need to be people fighting for social justice while continuing our learning of torah. Through this practice of Judaism which includes the strengths of all sectors of the Jewish World, Klal Israel as a whole will do Teshuva- Teshuva to each other, and teshuva towards authentic judaism.
