“Living Here is a life of meaning, and that’s why I can’t imagine myself living a life of convenience in another place” Secular Israeli
“Israel was given to us by God, a Jewish State is something I hold of high value for, and I have the greatest respect for someone who is willing to stay there even with all the turmoil that’s going on” Religious New Yorker
I’ll keep it short today. How can I not be more inspired by the perspective of this secular Israeli rather than the passive position of support outlined by the Religious New Yorker?
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously disagree with a lot of things said by the Secular Israeli, some of those things break my heart, but there is real a difference between those who choose to live a life based on their beliefs and principles, and those who choose to live a life based on their convenience. For some reason, on the issue of the land of Israel, the producers of this mini-movie decided to divide the conversation between religious and secular.
I feel it would have been much more accurate and powerful to divide it between those who have chosen to make their destiny that of the Jewish People (Israelis) and those who are staying back cheering on us (Americans). The life lived by those Israelis, of all types and all for different reasons, is a life of meaning, purpose and truthfulness. I think that even though they would disagree on a lot, on the issue of “The Promised Land”, they would group together better than through religious lines.
